Dental filings are done to restore a tooth that has been damaged by decay or a tooth that has a small chip or fracture. The fillings can be either bonded tooth colored composites, gold, or silver amalgam. If decay is caught early, the procedure can be simple and painless. If decay is left untreated, it can lead to tooth pain and either a root canal or extraction.
